Thanks Papa
A tribute to the man who has helped me become the woman I am becoming.
Without even starting to write this post I already know I will not be able to capture the gratitude inside me for my father, Manuel. I’ll still try…
As I have gotten older I have realized the true depth of your presence throughout my life. You have taught me to be resilient, independent, realistic, perceptive and ambitious. After time and time again where you would say things to me like, “If you do something, do it right or don't do it at all” , “You don’t need anyone to make you happy” and “You can only control what is in your hands”. These phrases I have heard countless times have shaped me to the woman I am today. You have pushed me to always take matters into my hands and yet understand that sometimes that is not possible. You have pushed me to feel whole and fulfilled on my own - to rely on myself for my own happiness. You have shown me what it means to be loved and respected. You have taught me to know my worth.
As a woman, I want to thank you for allowing me to have a voice and trusting my judgement. For providing me guidance yet having confidence that I will make the right decision. You have taught me to take a step back - Take a breath, be rational and gain a new perspective. You may not always agree with my choices but I find immense comfort in knowing that at every stage of life you will always be right there.
In addition to the emotional strength you have provided for me, you have also taught me what it means to have true work ethic. All my life and to this day I watch you work your ass off, stopping at nothing to provide the best for Alvaro and I. Never too prideful for any job. Always reminding me that everyone starts somewhere. You came to the states at 20 from Peru and since then have held many jobs and even owned a business. You have accumulated so much knowledge throughout the years that you always share with those around you; yet you remain humble and even remind me that you are still learning and evolving.
Thank you for all our memories for they will forever be beautifully embedded in my heart. Thank you for all the tough love and reality checks Humbertito. Thank you for the quiet you provide me. Thank you for all the values you instill in me, the encouragement you give me, my dreams you believe in and above all your unconditional love. You are the special light in my life and I thank you for making the world a brighter place. You are remarkable. I hope to make you proud.
PS: I will forever be your princesita
