lemons to the rescue

Lemons are a not so secret weapon for your health. Many of us may know the nutrients and vitamins lemons provide for us but for those that don’t I have a brief overview on the benefits. Please note, I am not a medical professional this is just based by own research and knowledge my doctors have shared with me.

Lemon juice contains vitamin C. I know most people think to get their vitamin c from orange juice however, if you think about the amount of oranges it takes for a full glass that requires quite a few oranges which means more sugar and more potential damage to your enamel. With lemon water since you are diluting it, there is less potential enamel damage and less sugar. Vitamin C is key especially during these covid times as it supports our immune system (side note - ginger is also a great immune booster).

Some say that lemon water can help aid weight loss and digestion. The acid in lemons help our bodies break down the food we consume. For me personally, I don’t know if it has helped me with weight loss, but it does help me fight bloating. Personally, I love me a regular coke, but my body does not. I always end up bloated or with a pimple from the high fructose. You may think well then just drink La Croix to satisfy your fizzy cravings, but I still end up bloated. Lemon water to the rescue! It is a great alternative to all those sugary drinks (flavored coffees, sodas, juices, etc.) without the bloat. As I already have IBS, if I can prevent additional bloating, I will. If anyone has any helpful tips on natural remedies to aid digestion, I’d love to hear it!

Lemon water serves as a simple yet refreshing drink that can help stay hydrated throughout the day. Next time you are craving something with more flavor turn to lemon water as a substitute or even replacement. You can always add other citrus slices, cucumbers and/or mint. Enhance the flavors to your liking and have fun with it. Who doesn’t like to drink something pretty and colorful? Skip the Starbucks. Save your money. Have some lemons.

Your body and skin will thank you.

PS - I’ve read it also helps prevent kidney stones. I don’t know much on this topic so I will let you read into that on your own.
