my hair care routine
how I cured my dry scalp
My whole life I have always suffered with having a dry scalp. I remember in middle school one day a girl told another girl in my class that it looked like snow fell on my shoulder because my dandruff was so bad. I was mortified – I still cringe thinking about that. Over the years, I have tried countless shampoos and home remedies and finally (hallelujah!) I now have a routine that work for my scalp. No more itch, flakes and embarrassment.
For starters I only wash my hair about twice a week - I like to have two to three days in between washes. I use Neutrogena’s Therapeutic Shampoo Original Formula, Pantene Daily Moisture Renewal Conditioner (Little note, I only apply to the second half of my hair and keep it in for 5- 10 minutes) and end every wash with the Healing Power Hair Masque by Raw Sugar. I keep the masque in my hair for about 20 minutes and I rinse it out with super cold water. Immediately after my shower or bath, I spray my hair with the OUAI Leave In Conditioner and brush my hair with a bamboo paddle brush. Since I naturally have light curls, I have to brush my hair while it is still wet to try and control a frizz mess. Really the only time my hair is blow dried is when I get hair cut which is every 6 months or so. I do use a hair straighter about once a week because I like how the next day the waves start to come back and it almost forms a blowout look but there are also definitely weeks, I just rock my natural hair. To prep my hair before straightening it, I apply the OUAI Leave In Conditioner as it also acts as a heat protectant and once I am done straightening, I apply a pump of Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum to my hair. In between washes I rely on the Tresemmé Volumizing Dry Shampoo to get me through the next few days. The real hair game changer for me has been the CURLS Blueberry and Mint Scalp Treatment. I massage this all over my scalp every Sunday and sleep in it. It smells amazing and truly works wonders! If you have a dry scalp, you need to try this product. I can’t promise you it will work for you but it is certainly worth a shot. You can find all these products except for the OUAI at a nearby Target but if you are interested in purchasing OAUI products you can find them at Sephora or Nordstrom.
