books to add to your shelf

Since I was a child, I have always loved to read. My mom still has this vivid memory of me as a child sitting at the corner of a dressing room burried in a book as she would shop away. Below I have compiled a list of my top five favorite books of all time also including a quotes from each to give you a taste of the story and/or writer.

  1. The Happiness Equation

“We think the scribble goes like this: Great Work → Big Success →Be Happy -

    Study hard! → Straight A’s! →Be happy!

Interview lots! → Great job! → Be happy!

Work overtime! → Get promoted! → Be happy!

But it doesn’t work like that in real life. The model is broken…we never get to happiness. It just keep getting pushed further and further away…Be Happy →Great work → Big Success”

  2. Tuesday’s with Morrie

“ So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they're chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.”

  3. The Last Mrs. Parrish

“This was the kind of home that was safely hidden from the eyes of those who could not afford to live this way. That's what wealth does for you, she thought. It gives you the means and the power to remain concealed from the world if you choose - or if you need to.”

  4. Untamed

“I love myself now. Self-love means that I have a relationship with myself built on trust and loyalty…I’ll disappoint everyone else before I’ll disappoint myself. I’ll forsake all others before I’ll forsake myself. Me and myself: We are till death do us part.”

  5. Atomic Habits

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.”
