IBS is no BS

For those that don’t know what IBS well lucky you. It stands for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Sexy? I know. Ok so now seriously, it sucks. BUT, within the last few months I have discovered what has helped me cope it. While there is no diet, pill, remedy, etc. to fit all – I still felt it was worth sharing for those fighting the pain and discomfort.  And of course, there are the basics like drinking plenty of H2o, avoiding dairy and increasing your fiber intake below are a few ways I have improved my digestive system.

daily probiotics pills  If you aren’t a fan of pills + rather use food as medicine, probiotics can be found in most yogurts + kefir. I personally take this probiotic

eat your veggies kids Artichokes, kale, broccoli, carrots, brussels sprouts + spinach. I like to incorporate these veggies in my juices, smoothies and or salads. Other food items that agree with my tummy and are high in fiber are raspberries, strawberries, oats, quinoa, chia seeds + sweet potatoes

skip the bubbly Save the veuve for special occasions + stick with still h2o

invest in a heating pad This has changed my life. I used to turn to it only when I would start to experience the cramps but even when I am not cramping it still feels nice to just keep it on my lower abdominal area before I go to bed

keep breakfast light Most mornings I nourish my body with a smoothie and on days where I feel hungrier, I will have some oats with berries

increase movement Even if it is just 15 – 30 minutes. Get up, stretch + talk a walk

no onions or garlic I read almost a year ago that those who suffer from IBS should avoid onions and garlic and they were right!

keep a routine I know this is a common theme but it is so true. This does not just help boost productivity and your mood but helps create a healthy rhythm for your digestive system. I try my best to eat my meals around the same time + sleep schedule – consistency has worked wonders
