Self-care Sunday

the one day a week dedicated to me

I want to start with saying that we should take care of ourselves every day, but the reality is – that in our hectic lives sometimes the week escapes and we fail to dedicate the time to. Sunday is the one day a week I have committed to spend time with myself. It’s my own date day, if you will. Not every Sunday looks the same but that’s the beauty of it. Sometimes the focus is more on my physical health, sometimes in my mental health and other times in my emotional health – maybe it will be to binge watch a show, maybe it will be get lost in a book, maybe it will be spending it with loved ones, maybe it will be a mindful walk, or just take a killer nap snuggled up with my Dolce. The key is to listen to your mind, body and spirit to figure out what you need. I am fortunate enough to pretty much dedicate the whole day to self-care but for those that can’t I will also include some ideas that are more realistic for your schedule. Really, the takeaway is to start dedicating time for yourself. Self-care is important for your relationship with yourself but also for those around you. It is a way to improve your mood and by no means is it selfish. How and when you follow through is totally up to you – just make sure you do! Below is how I “Self-care Sunday”.

Skincare - I love to show my skin some extra love with a mask as I relax in the bath.

Sleep – If I don’t sleep in then I will make sure to get a nap in. Rest is simply the best way to recharge.

Manicure – I love getting a gel mani every other Sunday. Looking at my polished nails just bring me joy so I don’t mind the splurge.

Socials – I minimize the time scrolling through my phone to ensure I am being present with myself. A little social media detox is always refreshing.

Clean – I tidy up and do some laundry. Nothing like enjoying a de-cluttered space.

Plan – I think about what I need to accomplish and map out my game plan.

Supper – Designated time with my papa to catch up over a nice meal. Sometimes I go over and cook, other times we will go out to eat.

Entertainment – I don’t watch television during the week but Sunday you better believe I make sure to tune into TLC. Often times, I also like to dig myself in a book – anything thrilling and I’m hooked!

Worship – I will admit, I haven’t been watching church as much as I was earlier this year, but I am going to bring this back to my Sunday routine.

Other ways to self-care that don’t require too much time can be – to go to your favorite coffee shop, call a family member, make yourself a nutritious smoothie, jam to your favorite song, light a candle/diffuse essential oils or write in your journal. Sometimes it is the “smallest things” that make the difference.
